17 weeks Pregnant, Shirley Shares Her Secret to Overcoming Vaginismus While Trying to Conceive

Interview responses were edited for clarity.

Q: Hi, Shirley! Tell us a bit about yourself! How old are you and your partner, where do you live in the U.K., and what do you both work as?

A: I am 32 years old, and a teacher, while my husband is a 36-year-old administrative assistant. We live in Cornwall, UK.

Q: Congratulations on getting pregnant with the twoplus Applicator! Is this your first successful pregnancy?

A: This is our first successful pregnancy.

Q: You briefly shared about your fertility challenges with vaginismus. Could you share more about how vaginismus made TTC on demand more challenging?

A: Trying to conceive was difficult as intercourse was painful and stressful. That is why the applicator was a brilliant option for us.

Q: How did you find out you had vaginismus, and was it mild, moderate, or severe?

A: I would say my vaginismus is moderate-severe. I have had it for 6 years and found out about it when I started going for cervical screenings.

Q: Why did you start trying for a baby? How long have you been trying to conceive?

A:  We decided it was the right time to try for a baby at the beginning of 2023. We were trying for 8 months before getting pregnant.

Q: What else have you tried in your TTC journey before using twoplus?

A: We started using the Applicator after using a different one at the beginning of the year. We changed to twoplus because it was a more reasonable price. We saw it advertised online.

Q: How often did you use the twoplus Applicator before you got pregnant? And what led you to purchase the twoplus Applicator?

A: We used the twoplus Applicator 7 times, multiple times during each ovulation period, which I carefully tracked using ovulation tests. The seventh time was the successful conception.

Q: Was the Applicator easy to use? Was it uncomfortable after inserting, and did you have any trouble using the fertility tool?

A: The Applicator was easy to use, and it was comfortable and painless.

Q: Did you adopt any lifestyle changes to improve your odds of conceiving?

A: We drank less caffeine and alcohol this year to aid conception.

Q: Would you recommend the twoplus Applicator to other people who may have difficulties with natural conception?

A:  I would definitely recommend this product to anyone else who is having trouble conceiving, particularly those with vaginismus, as it has been life-changing in enabling me to conceive.

Q: What would you have done differently if you could return to the beginning of your TTC journey? Also, what would you suggest to other couples who are TTC?

A:  I would advise that it takes multiple attempts to get used to using the applicator and to be patient and not expect instant results. I would also advise leaving the applicator in for 15 seconds, as close to the cervix as possible, and removing it slowly after insertion.
