How We Got Pregnant When Traditional Sex Felt Impossible Due To Trauma

In her early 30s, Bernie* found herself feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Intimacy had become stressful, and worries about whether she would be able to have a baby one day were always in the back of her mind. She and her husband were close and supportive of each other, but the pressure of trying to conceive without intercourse made things feel harder than they needed to be.

After seeking help and chancing upon other options, Bernie and her husband decided to try twoplus Applicators, an at-home insemination kit. This choice lifted a huge weight. It gave them a calm, private way to move forward together, without added stress or expectations. As the pressure eased, so did Bernie’s fears. What once felt like a constant struggle began to feel manageable, and hopeful. And after 1 cycle of insemination with twoplus, the waiting, the fear, the pressure she’d carried for so long all disappeared. She wasn’t broken. Her dream wasn’t slipping away. She is pregnant.

It gave us so much more hope for sure. We can have children and need not rush mental health treatments! We were so relieved and it def changed our view about having a second or a third! It’s a lot cheaper and hassle free. It also takes away much stress, allowing you to enjoy sex the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.” - Bernie

Q: Could you share a little about you and your partner (e.g., age, ethnicity, what you both do for work)?

A: We’re both civil servants in our early 30s.

Q: Why did you start trying for a baby, and how long have you been trying to conceive?

A: We’ve been married for 5 years and always wanted children. We had hoped to conceive at least a year into our marriage, but weren’t able to.

Q: What were the hardest parts of trying to conceive? And how did that make you feel?

A: We were unable to try because we had difficulties with sex due to childhood trauma. We went for mental health treatments to resolve said trauma so that we could start, but that was taking too long. We felt hopeless and frustrated. I was in despair and worried that we’d only be able to conceive late into our 30s or not at all. We didn’t know there were options for trying to conceive without intercourse.

Q: What prompted you to start looking for a solution like the twoplus Applicator?

A: I wasn’t looking, because I didn’t know something like that was an option. I only knew about this as I chanced on an ad on Instagram and got curious.

Q: Did you or your partner have any hesitations before buying it? If yes, what convinced you to give it a try?

A: I had no hesitation, but my partner was worried about possible infections and hygiene-related matters. I also watched vids and read up on how to use it so I’m clear of the processes. We decided to go for it as we were assured that infection risks would be minimal if one follows the instructions carefully. We also found the website helpful as it has much info on the product, who it’s suitable for, how to use etc.

Q: How many cycles did you use it for? How many times each cycle?

A: We used it for 1 cycle, 3 times.

Q: Can you describe how you felt the very first time you used the twoplus Applicator?

A: I was scared that it’ll be painful because we hadn’t had sex for a long time and I’ve a low pain tolerance. But it gratefully wasn’t! The detailed instructions, both printed and video, helped a lot too. It was really easy to use and hygienic in general. We were surprised at it to be honest.

Q: Did using twoplus change how you and your partner felt about trying to conceive?

A: It gave us so much more hope for sure. We can have children and need not rush mental health treatments! We were so relieved and it def changed our view about having a second or a third! Plus the applicator isn’t expensive, compared to other treatments out there for people struggling the way we were.

Q: How did you feel the moment you found out you were pregnant?

A: I WAS SO HAPPY AND EXCITED! It reassured me that we were healthy and fertile, we just couldn’t engage in intercourse but that’s no longer an issue! And I can’t believe that this was an option! And I wished we found out about it earlier! Would have def saved us the despair, worry and frustration. It only took 1 cycle!

Q: If someone close to you is struggling to conceive and thinking about twoplus, what would you tell them?

A: Go for it before considering other options. It’s a lot cheaper and hassle free. It also takes away much stress, allowing you to enjoy sex the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

Q: And if they were unsure whether twoplus is worth the cost, what would you say to them?

A: I bought the 3 cycle package, so I’d say that one wouldn’t have much to lose at $90 per cycle. It’ll save time (from more trying the

conventional way) and money (from IVF). And if it doesn’t work, they’ll always still have other options to consider.

Q: How are you two preparing for this new chapter? What are you most excited about as you get ready to welcome your baby?

A: We’re waiting to tell our friends and families once the first trimester is over! We’re just researching for now. We’re def most excited for the next chapter of our lives to start and we cannot wait!
